APGRD Notes
Singspiel in five acts. Dramatis personae: Alcestis (soprano), Admet (tenor), Parthenia (soprano), Herkules (bass). Goethe protested against this galant, counter-Euripidean adaptation in his pamphlet 'Götter, Helden und Wieland'. The opera nevertheless achieved popularity. Wieland's libretto was further set by Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Benda (Berlin 1786: see Production ID 9839) and Ernst Wilhelm Wolf (Weimar 1786: see Production ID 9840).
