Consult the collections

The APGRD archive and library collections are open to visitors by appointment only. We welcome everyone who wishes to consult the collections, from interested members of the general public to creative practitioners, students, researchers, and academics.

Please email the APGRD at least two weeks in advance to request an appointment. We will need a longer notice period to arrange group visits.

Information about your visit

  • Our reference library is available to browse during your visit but archive items must be requested in advance.
  • Guidance on how to find and request archive material will be sent on confirmation of an appointment.
  • WiFi is available in the building via Eduroam.
  • 3-pin (UK) sockets are available but please bring your own adaptors if needed.
  • With the exception of bottled water, no food or drink is allowed in the Study Room.
  • Pens are not permitted for writing notes, pencils are provided.
  • The Study Room is always closed to visitors on Fridays.

How to find us

The APGRD Study Room is located on the first floor of the Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies. The Ioannou Centre is fully accessible but please let us know of any mobility requirements ahead of time.

The building's entrance is located near a red telephone box, opposite the entrance to St John’s College. You will need to use the intercom to gain access to the building; please then report to Reception which is located directly in front of you after the two sets of glass doors.

There is no departmental parking. There is public Blue Badge parking as well as standard pay and display spaces on St Giles.

Group visits

Groups of more than three are most welcome, but please provide us with extra notice to make arrangements. The APGRD can also offer tailored visits for classes or cohorts of students, but these must be arranged well in advanced and in consultation with our Archivist. Please email the APGRD to discuss group visits.
