Mackinnon notes that this was produced at Henley-on-Thames during the regatta. Another source suggests it was also produced this year at Brasenose College. Henry Crabb Robinson saw it played on 24 January 1848 in the large drawing room "at Talfourd's", with Frank Talfourd in the title role; this performance was followed by Frank Talfourd's burlesque play Macbeth Travestie.
