World premiere, staged concert performance. Wallen’s new opera, based on Ovid, includes a full performance of Purcell’s 'Dido and Aeneas' within it, which is presented as a series of flashbacks. Co-commissioned by Dunedin Consort, the Barbican Centre, Edinburgh International Festival, Buxton International Festival, Mahogany Opera, and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale. Dunedin Consort performed the UK performances; Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale performed the US performance.
