Based on Eugene O'Neill's play of the same title, this film sets the Oresteia in New England after the American Civil War. Originally released by RKO Radio Pictures at nearly three hours running time, it was cut to 105 minutes after it performed poorly at the box-office; the complete version appears to be lost.
