VINDICES: a play in Latin (matinee performance + in conversation)

Speaker
Micol Jalla (director) and actors
Venue
Ioannou Centre, 66 St Giles
Date

The performance of a new Latin play, loosely based on William Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, followed by an in-conversation event with the director, Micol Jalla, and members of the cast.

In the beautiful Rome of the end of the empire, not so different from a city of today, the demon of Vengeance is elected emperor, soiling the hands of the citizens with their own blood. A sacrifice, the renunciation of an office and a mistaken marriage trigger a chain of deceit, violence and murder that seems to have no end. Eleven dead, three hands and a tongue severed, several glasses knocked over and bottles drained. How could it have ended like this? After all, a little party never killed anybody. Or did it?

A project by S.I.A.C. (Société Internationale des Amis de Cicéron, Paris), in collaboration with Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani Onlus of Turin, and the University of Turin's Department of Humanistic Studies.

Latin text by the university students of the seminar led by Ermanno Malaspina.
