It is likely that this 'ballo eroico tragico' drew on Euripides and/or Seneca. It was performed in Bologna during the carnival season 1790 (between Christmas and Lent). Horbman's music for this production might have been identical to that which he supplied for the ballet production titled Giasone e Medea at Teatro delle Dame in Rome in 1785 and which was choreographed by Domenico Ricciardi (Sartori ID 11832). Banti's choreography is possibly related to his identically-titled ballets performed at Turin in 1786 (Sartori ID 12853), Cremona IN 1787 (Sartori ID 8436a) and Trieste in 1795 (Sartori ID 21766).
