This was the first of the three ballets used as interval entertainment during the production of Ferdinando Bertoni's opera Scipione nelle Spagne (Sartori ID 21300). It is likely that it drew either on Sophocles or Seneca. The other two interval ballets for the same production were titled Li molinari provenzali and Ballo di diverse nazioni.
