Libretto: Ortensio Mauro, 'L'Alceste. Drama per musica da rapresentarsi [sic] di nuova [sic] nel Theatro d’Hannover, l'anno 1681. Alla maesta di Amalia Regina di Danimarca, e Norveggia' (Hanover: Wolfgang Schwendiman, 1681). This is another setting of the libretto titled L'Alceste which was first used in Hanover in 1679 (Production ID 10568). The composer on this occasion was either Nicolaus Adam Strungk or Marc'Antonio Ziani. The production included two ballets: the first one 'of satyrs' (end of act I), the second one 'of gladiators' (end of act II). The first production of L'Alceste in Hanover had itself been based on a reworking of 'L'Antigona delusa da Alceste' (Venice, 1660: see Production ID 7463). Both versions of L'Alceste libretto for Hanover served as a model for Handel's opera Admeto (see Production ID 6778).
