Sofia Frade

Sofia Frade is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Lisbon. Her research interests are political receptions of Attic tragedy in its original context, as well as contemporary reception of Greek drama. She was a visiting scholar at the APGRD between 2009-12. 

Selected publications

Sofia's PhD thesis, on Euripides Heracles is now published with Bloomsbury: Heracles and Athenian Propaganda Politics, Imagery and Drama (2023). Her recent publications include the chapter "‘Breaking News: Hercules Is the Son of Zeus’: the Chorus in Helen Eastman’s Hercules" in Emma Stafford's volume Hercules Performed:The Hero on Stage from the Enlightenment to the Early Twenty-First Century (Brill, 2024).
